On June 14, the new criminal law committee of the Zhejiang Lawyers Association held the 1^st plenary meeting, i.e. the annual meeting of 2008 at Shantaishan of Hangzhou. Members of the criminal law committee of the Zhejiang Lawyers Association, the directors of all level lawyers association, part of the senior criminal lawyers attended this meeting. Vice director of the Provincial Justice Department, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Zhejiang Lawyers Association Wu Qiangjun, Deputy division chief of the Lawyers Division of the Provincial Justice Department Xu Saiying, Chairman of the Zhejiang Lawyers Association Zhang Jingzhong, vice chairman Shen Tianfeng, secretary Chen Weiqing and vice secretary Du Guizhen attended the meeting. Vice director of the criminal law committee of the Zhejiang Lawyers Association, director of the criminal law committee of the Hangzhou Lawyers Association, senior partner of the Firm Lawyer Hu Dongqian made a speech in the meeting and hosted the meeting in the afternoon. Lawyer Wei Yongqiang and Wang Xiaohui attended the meeting as the member and secretary of the criminal law committee.

    The meeting discussed the difficulties and problems discovered after the Law of Lawyers went into effect on June 1, and the Several Opinions Concerning Relevant Issues of Lawyers’ Participation in Criminal Suits drafted by the Lawyers Division of the Zhejiang Justice Department. The attendees hope that the Justice Department will communicate with the Provincial Public Security Bureau, the Provincial Procuratorate, the Supreme Court, and the Provincial NPC with regard to the problems in the enforcement of the Law of Lawyers, in order to guarantee the rights of the lawyers. In addition, the meeting also discussed the two documents proposed by the director of the Criminal Law Committee, the 3-Year Work Plan, and the Division of Labor of the Directors. The committee members suggested workable strategies and ideas.
