On December 30, 2006, 14 members of Zhejiang Anti-dumping Practice Training Group, of which Lawyer Cui Haiyan is the group leader, completed the half-year WTO and U.S. trade law training program and returned from Washington D.C. to Hangzhou.
The training program was managed by the International Law Institute. The first part of the program focused on the WTO and U.S. anti-dumping, subsidy and counterveiling and safeguard, and Section 337 investigation as well. In addition, the U.S. legal system, court system and individual laws including American Constitution, contract law, company law, intellectual property law and civil procedure law, etc, were also taught. In the second stage, Lawyer Cui practiced for over 3 months in Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP , which is one of the top-ten law firms in Washington D.C. Her mentor Mr Charles Owen Verrill, Jr., is the head and senior partner of the International Trade Group. Lawyer Cui was involved in an international arbitration case heard by the ICSID (International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes) and assisted her mentor in drafting legal documents. Moreover, in the anti-dumping law area, she got the opportunity to read a specific case file and deepened her comprehension by discussing with the international trade lawyers and consultants of the firm.
During the training period, the institute also organized visits to the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Department of Commerce, the International Trade Commission, the Trade Representative Office, the Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the Federal Court, the World Bank and several internationally leading law firms.
Lawyer Cui once participated in a one-year lawyer training program in London and Hong Kong in 2001. The U.S. training program made her acquainted with the operation and management of American law firms and the latest development of the legal profession, brought her views and values in line with global and modern ones, and accumulated her theoretical knowledge and practical experience. |
